Stoughton Property
Lateegra’s Stoughton property consists of 18 unpatented mining claims in the Larder Mining Division, comprising 144 units having a total area of 23.04 square km within the Abitibi greenstone belt. Being geologically and strategically well located on a splay of the Porcupine Destor Fault it lays approximately 10 km northeast of the Holt and Holloway Mines (St. Andrews Goldfields) where combined historic gold production exceeds 2.3 million ounces. St. Andrews also operates a 3000 ton per day milling facility at their Holt Mine Project. About 25 km to the southeast of Stoughton, Clifton Star Resources and Osisko Mining Corporation are aggressively exploring their Beattie and Donchester gold deposits (near Duparquet, Quebec) where again combined historical production exceeds 1 million ounces.
Location Map
Gold was first reported by Willet Green Miller in 1907 when he travelled for the Ontario Bureau of Mines to Larder Lake in the Kirkland Lake camp and Nighthawk Lake in the Timmins camp of the Abitibi belt. He requested detailed mapping of the area, which was published in a 1909 report noting a small mining operation established on the Stoughton property where samples of pyrite-bearing quartz veins yielded up to 0.25 opt gold. In 1915, the government approved the construction of a dam for Abitibi forestry operations that flooded the lake and islands where the gold had been mined. In 1980, Noranda Mines staked the Stoughton property and conducted geophysical surveys, a reverse circulation drill program, and channel sampling in the area of previous mining. This sampling yielded a channel assay of 15 feet grading 0.16 opt gold. Diamond drilling by Noranda Mines yielded 0.24 opt gold over 2.5 ft in hole S81-2 below the channel sample location; 0.061 opt gold over 5.0 ft in hematized porphyry in hole S87-4 located 1,200 feet south of hole S81-2; 0.051 opt gold over 4.0 ft in hematized porphyry in hole S87-7; and 0.067 opt gold over 2.3 ft in hematized porphyry in hole S87-8, 1,200 ft east of hole S81-2. Limited geological mapping and sampling was recently completed by the property vendors which confirmed widespread hematized porphyries intruding mafic and ultramafic rocks. Several channel samples were collected and returned values of up to 1.92 g/t Au over 5 metres. This work was completed this past summer when local water levels were extremely low. A low altitude, high resolution airborne horizontal gradient magnetic survey was completed over the Stoughton claims in mid-December 2010. The survey was flown at 50 meter line spacing and completed by Oracle Geoscience Ltd .
